There is a wealth of things to do in the beautiful Golden Valley. Relax in the river garden by the old watermill, or fish in the brook. Home Farm is a haven for bird watchers with its ravens, mistle thrushes, woodpeckers and house martins. Walk down to the village to collect your provisions, or walk up into the Black Mountains or down along the beautiful Wye Valley.
Just a couple of miles away, visit Dore Abbey, built in Cistercian times which holds several summer music festivals. There are many more castles and gardens to visit in the area.
The oldest map of the world, the Mappa Mundi, is housed along with the Chained Library, next to Hereford Cathedral and the Cider museum is well worth a visit. The popular Three Choirs festival is held in August.
A wealth of old books can be found in Hay-on-Wye, along with many lovely cafes and independent shops with unusual gifts. It is also the home of the internationally renowned Hay Festival of literature, arts and music.
Abergavenny is the gateway to South Wales and is an up and coming town for food lovers, many great restaurants are in this area. Abergavenny Food Festival is held on 20th & 21st September and features top chefs and hundreds of stands offering a wonderful selection of local food.
